Brianna makes for tricky travel

GREEN BAY - Road conditions have changed a lot since the snow started to fall Thursday morning. Conditions on area roads have been deteriorating throughout the day.

"It wasn't as bad as it could have been and it wasn't as great as it could have been,” said one driver to FOX 11’s Angela Kelly on Good Day Wisconsin. “So – mediocre."

"We're expecting as the morning traffic starts to increase that we'll see it pick up," said Sgt. Greg Tilley with the Brown County Sheriff’s Department.

And oh what a difference several hours can make.

Warmer temperatures showed up mid-morning, creating a wetter snow, making driving difficult – especially when much of the area has ongoing construction.

Blowing winds helped coat area roadways with a slippery rain-snow mix as plows were out, doing their best.

As of Thursday afternoon, Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago County law enforcement officials responded to as many as 100 or more traffic crashes and cars in ditches.

For some drivers like Jeff Jindra of Lawrence, he’ll only venture a couple of miles away from his home in Blizzard Brianna.

"Is this a winter wonderland for you?” I asked Jindra.

“This would definitely be a winter wonderland, yes, the kids are very appreciative," said Jindra after getting some fresh gasoline for his snow blower. “Me – in particular – no."

"If (people are) doing shopping at this point, I would hope they're doing more online shopping than being out in the weather."
 
Wisconsin State Patrol says use common sense. If you don't have to venture out, don't.
