Chilton among hardest hit in blizzard

About a foot dumped in Calumet County

CHILTON - As a recent retiree, Chilton's Edward Berg is usually taking it easy.

“Except when there is a blizzard, then I have to work,” said Berg.

This day's work is snow blowing the better half of his neighborhood.

“It'd normally only take me an hour to get all this done,” said Berg. “I'm working almost three hours to get all this done now.”

Berg's neighbor might be to blame.

“I dared Mother Nature on Facebook to dump 18 inches,” said Jason Allen of Chilton. “I don't know if it happened, but it's got to be pretty close.”

By mid-afternoon about a foot of snow blanketed the area.

“Been out here about every two hours keeping up with the snow,” said Allen. “It's actually kind of fun.”

“This is only the beginning,” said Berg. “This is the taste. Now we're going to get all the good stuff.”

The good stuff is being put to good use. It's hard to find a Chilton street without at least one yard with a snowman.

“It's pretty fun, because you can do a lot of stuff outside and spend time with the family and stuff like that,” said Austin Berenz, an 8th grade student.

Berenz can thank his school being closed for the day's fun. He hopes it can last into Friday.

“I'm hoping at least for a delay,” said Berenz.

While Blizzard Brianna might be good for snowmen, its quality isn't as good for guys like Berg.

“It's wet,” said Berg. “It's real heavy and it's hard to work with, so you've got to be real careful.”
