ASHWAUBENON - The blizzard is not just causing travel troubles on the roads; it's also creating a mess for air travel, and looks like it's not over yet.

The storm pretty much put everything at stand still at both regional airports in our area Thursday.

According to Austin Straubel Airport's website Thursday evening, some Friday morning departing flights have already been canceled.

The storm's low visibility grounded flights.

"Having all the outbound flights canceled for the day is really unusual," explained Austin Straubel airport director Tom Miller. "We did get one flight with Delta this morning at 6:30 to Minneapolis. Other than that, everything else, all the carriers have been canceled."

Still crews worked tirelessly throughout the day to keep the runways clear.

But nothing was going out or coming in.

The arriving flights from Chicago, Minneapolis and Detroit were canceled as well.

Outagamie County Airport also reported cancellations.

"I was hoping to get back to the office tomorrow because it would be my last day of before vacation, but that's not going to happen," said Linda Simmons of St. Louis.

Stranded passengers at Austin Straubel, like Simmons, said it's been a hassle, but they saw it coming.

"I flew into Chicago and we drove up yesterday from Chicago so we knew when we made that drive that there was a possibility, a good chance we wouldn't get out, but we had business to do," Simmons explained.

Airport officials say crews will be out through the night to keep the runways clear.
