Flooding affecting many parts of Wisconsin

MADISON - Flooding is threatening many parts of Wisconsin after heavy rains late last week and over the weekend.

State emergency management officials say creeks and rivers are rising throughout the southern half of the state. Green Lake, Waushara and Winnebago counties are all under a flood warning, as are Jackson, La Crosse and Trempealeau counties further west.

In Green Lake County, emergency management officials say they began filling sandbags Sunday and placed them in downtown Berlin. Sandbags are also available to homeowners. No one has been evacuated, but the Red Cross has provided more than 100 meals to volunteers filling sandbags and is preparing flood cleanup kits. The Fox River is expected to crest around 15 feet Wednesday morning, which could cause moderate flooding.

In Winnebago County, emergency management officials stopped in Eureka and Omro to check on the Fox River. Flooding there traditionally happens two days after Berlin. The city of Omro has also provided sandbags to Eureka.

In Oshkosh, state officials say about 100 homeowners contacted area insurance companies about flood damage. The Red Cross has provided 40 flood cleanup kits.

In Waushara County, officials are watching the area vulnerable to flooding from the Fox River. So far, only one building is threatened.

In Outagamie County, Weiler Road in the town of Buchanan is closed because of flood waters and damage.

Elsewhere in the state, Blair in Trempealeau County continues cleanup after last week’s flooding. The Black River in Trempealeau and Jackson counties is rising, but is not expected to cause major problems.

In Milwaukee, the National Weather Service says a record 2.45 inches of rain fell Sunday.
