Flooding concerns in Northeast Wisconsin

KEWAUNEE COUNTY - A high water sign on Highway BB in Kewaunee County was not enough to keep the traffic away.

Stanley LaCrosse owns the L & L One Stop. He says this is the worst flooding here in 14 years.

“This is bad. Really. Thank god I don't have a basement under there. We would be pumping steady,” said LaCrosse.

It's a situation common in Kewaunee County. Part of Highway C near Kewaunee was roughed up by the quickly moving water.

“We got some backhoes going around and opening up areas, blocked pipes, and ditches that are full of snow. In some areas, we have a lot of runoff. We're trying to get things open, and running, keeping the water in the ditch, and off the roadways,” said Dale Jandrain, Kewaunee County highway commissioner.

In Outagamie County, high waters threatened roadways and put stress on culverts near Greenville.

In the City of Green Bay, public works officials were monitoring the situation. The streets superintendent tells FOX 11, there were no major backups in the system.

And in De Pere, the city engineer said crews were out early, clearing storm grates.

But in Kim Madison's backyard, a neighborhood lake has formed.

“We were watching it, and it seems like every few hours, the water would come closer and closer to our house,” said Madison.

Just down the road in the Town of Lawrence, Mike Herrmann is watching his bridge slowly disappear.

“It was pretty much to the top of the bridge this morning. When I built the bridge, I built it so it could raise up on the sides, so that it goes back down when the water recedes,” said Herrmann.

And until the water recedes, people will have to deal with this latest round of weather.

“There's not too much we can do about it, it's all Mother Nature,” said LaCrosse.

The Kewaunee County highway commissioner says a gradual thaw would provide the most help.
