March temperature comparisons

ASHWAUBENON - So far, this March has been a little cooler than average, and that doesn't look to change much in the near future.

But just one year ago, the exact opposite was the case.

Though it doesn't look quite as white as it did last week, the evidence of our rather cool Mach is almost everywhere you look.

Piles of snow are shrinking, but mostly because of a couple heavy rains we've seen this month.

Some people say they are ready for some warmer weather.

Just one short year ago it was a different story.

High temperatures were in the 50s and up into the 60s. And later temps would reach in the 70s and 80s, setting the stage for a record breaking month.

In order to make an even comparison between last year and this year, we're going to look at the temperature and precipitation data that we have, which is through March 12.

Last year, we were a full 10 degrees above average through this point in March, whereas this year we're just a little bit below average through the same point in time.

When it comes to snowfall though, that's where it gets interesting.

Last year we had actually received more than 8 inches of snow, with some snowfalls very early in the month.

But with temperatures getting into the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s after that, it didn't stick around for very long.

And that's why this year, even with the little snow we've had, the cool weather has allowed what snow we had on the ground to stick with us.
