MADISON (AP) - Some schools remain closed and utility crews are working to restore power to thousands of customers as parts of Wisconsin dig out of 20 inches of snow.
We Energies and Alliant Energy are dealing with about 30,000 customers that have lost service in the windy winter storm. Some schools canceled classes for a second day because drifting snow is making travel dangerous. Students in Madison, Whitewater, Wisconsin Dells, Waupun, Portage and Platteville school districts are among those on extended holiday vacation.
The National Weather Service says 12 to 20 inches of snow fell in Dane County before tapering off. Authorities say blowing and drifting snow is making some roads impassable, mainly in south central Wisconsin.
