A Lawrence University alumnus has been nominated to serve asambassador to the Republic of Congo.
President Barack Obama nominated Christopher Murray to the postTuesday. Murray is a 1975 Lawrence graduate.
A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Murray has been a long-time foreignservice officer in the U.S. Department of State and currentlyserves as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Mission to theEuropean Union in Brussels. He previously served as Deputy Chief ofMission at the U.S. Embassies in Lebanon and Algeria.
His other overseas assignments include Syria, the DemocraticRepublic of the Congo and Jamaica. He also has served in theBureaus of Nonproliferation, European Affairs, InternationalOrganizations, and African Affairs in Washington, D.C..
In addition to his degree in government from Lawrence, he earneda law degree from Cornell University.
