APPLETON - A plan to remake a busy stretch of Mason Street in Appleton has been sent back to committee.
The common council was supposed to vote Wednesday night on a plan to add bike lanes on Mason between Northland and Prospect Avenues. However, the council decided it wants the municipal services committee to take another look at the proposal.
The plan would have eliminated nearly all street parking along that part of Mason Street.
During Wednesday night's meeting, supporters said the lanes would make biking safer in the area. Opponents said removing the parking would hurt schools, churches and businesses on that street.
The committee is scheduled to take up the plan at its next meeting Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, a state committee will release its recommendations on what Wisconsin should do with the Common Core standards.
