APPLETON - The Appleton city council has cleared the way for a paper company to build a research facility.
Wednesday night, the board approved a tax incremental finance, or TIF, district for Appvion, formerly known as Appleton Papers. The TIF district covers Appvion's property on Wisconsin Ave.
TIF districts are tools which allow municipalities to help redevelop specific areas by pumping property tax money back into those areas.
The city is also offering the company up to $5.4 million in incentives.
An Appvion spokesperson tells FOX 11 the company is not yet ready to make an announcement on the project and has not determined what its investment would be.
Appvion currently has three labs on its campus. The new facility would allow for some jobs to be created.
