APPLETON - For good health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says we should exercise two and a half hours each week, but finding motivation is not always easy.
"I come home from school, I wanna just sit on the couch. That's the hardest part. You wanna get out of that relaxed state and just get to the gym," said Collin Posselt
Finding time can also be difficult.
"Time is always a big one: having a family, working, working long hours," said Chelsy Lingenhag.
According to the CDC, only 21% of American Adults find the motivation and time to get a healthy amount of exercise.
"Doesn't surprise me at all, because we had found the same thing here with our employees," said Deb Anderson, the Director of Health Promotions at Network Health in Appleton.
Anderson told FOX 11 the company started programs to encourage exercise. There is a gym on site. Walking routes are mapped out and everyone has pedometers.
"It's very helpful to be able to do it during work. I know there's a bunch of people who like to go for 20-30 minutes on their lunch break," said Lingenhag,
Network also holds competitions among employees, for example, giving prizes for the most steps walked.
At Faith Technologies in Menasha it's similar.
"We try and change it up each year and offer different programs, we offer them to their families, so that their spouses and their children can get involved. Just make it as easy as possible," explained Alyssa Kwasny. HR and Wellness Coordinator for Faith.
The company even motivates employees to take the stairs by hanging encouraging signs in stairwells.
Faith also gives reimbursements for gym memberships and fun runs.
The companies say it's paying off, claiming healthy employees are more productive.
"We can see reductions in absenteeism...exercise reduces your stress levels, it increases your endorphins," explained Anderson.
Talk about multi-tasking, Network Health is even looking into getting desks which are attached to treadmills and exercise bikes.
