OSHKOSH - Former University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh baseball coach Tom Lechnir has filed suit in Winnebago County court, seeking to have a judge overturn the university's decision not to renew his contract.
Lechnir's appeal through the university's internal process was denied by Chancellor Richard Wells, prompting the suit filed Friday.
"The Chancellor's decision should be reversed because the substantial rights of petitioner have been prejudiced," the petition states.
"Given the court filing, we will opt not to comment at this time. The circuit court is the proper forum for the matter right now," said Alex Hummel, a UWO spokesman.
No court dates have been scheduled. It was assigned to Judge Barbara Key.
UWO has already filled the head coaching position.
