APPLETON - An Oshkosh man was arrested after he allegedly rammed his SUV into a building in Appleton Wednesday night.
Appleton police say they were called to a business on the 2300 block of W. College Ave. just before 8:30 p.m. for a report of a vehicle crashing into the building. As officers responded, reports of an SUV with extensive front-end damage came in. Winnebago Co. sheriff’s deputies stopped the vehicle headed south on Hwy. 41 in Neenah soon after.
The driver was identified as Steven L. Jones, 55. He was jailed on a probation violation as well as suspicion of damage to property and burglary to a building. He was also ticketed for second-offense driving while intoxicated and operation after revocation. Jones has not yet been criminally charged in this case.
Officers say the damage to the building was consistent with a vehicle being used to try to break in to it. Firefighters were called in to check for structural issues. The damage is estimated to be at least $20,000.
One person was in the building at the time of the crash. He was not hurt.
