FOND DU LAC - A Fond du Lac County man was sentenced to one year probation and must pay $700 restitution for damaging the firefighters memorial at Hamilton Park.
Elvin Hightire, 18, pleaded guilty Tuesday morning to misdemeanor criminal damage to property.
Hightire must also write a letter of apology to the fire chief and get a job. Hightire's record can be cleared if he meets all the conditions.
The memorial in Hamilton Park honors four firefighters killed in the line of duty. Police said Hightire admitted to the July 2012 incident - although he said he was simply leaning against the 900-pound stone memorial when it tipped over.
The memorial has since been repaired.
