NEENAH - One woman is in critical condition and another is in jail Wednesday night following a shooting in Neenah. Police say it happened at the Walmart on Winneconne Avenue in Neenah and that both women are store employees.
They say the suspect is 46-year-old Justine Boyd of Greenville.
"This is shocking. This is Neenah," remarked Lisa Beaudreau who came to Walmart to shop and found a crime scene: an employee was shot in the liquor section. She told FOX 11 she moved her family here from Las Vegas to avoid violence.
"Where this stuff happens all the time, you know, it's an everyday occurrence. This never happens here. I'm shocked. I bring my kids here," said Beaudreau.
Neenah Police Chief Kevin Wilkinson told us police were called to the store at about 11 Wednesday morning.
"Found the victim and got the victim to medical emergency services," said Wilkinson.
The 56-year-old victim had a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was taken to ThedaClark Medical Center in Neenah where she is listed in critical condition.
Police quickly found the alleged shooter in the store too.
"Which led to identification of a suspect, they immediately took that person into custody," said Wilkinson.
The suspect is 46-year-old Justine Boyd. Police told us both Boyd and the victim are cashiers at the stor, but it's unclear what prompted the shooting.
"I don't know if it was something that just arose today or something that was long-standing, said Wilkinson.
A spokeswoman for Walmart told FOX 11 she's shocked by this. She said she is in touch with the victim's family and that the store is helping in the investigation.
Walmart officials told us the liquor section was shut down due to the shooting, but the store remained open. It was a move that surprised Beaudreau.
"Show some respect. Show some decorum, you know? It's this person's life," said Beaudreau.
Walmart's spokeswoman said the decision was made after there was no longer a danger present and the victim had received medical care.
Beaudreau told us mostly she hopes the victim will be okay.
"I just feel so bad for that lady that was shot," she said.
Boyd has been booked in the Winnebago County jail on a charge of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide. Walmart says she's been suspended from work.
