APPLETON - A man charged in an attack at an Appleton park reached a plea deal with prosecutors that includes dropping of a hate crime enhancer.
Thomas Pruett pleaded no contest Friday in Outagamie County court to a count of substantial battery.
Sentencing is scheduled for October 16.
A second count of disorderly conduct with a hate crime enhancer was dropped, but can be considered at sentencing.
Pruett attacked a person who was born a man, but now identifies as a woman.
Police said Pruett was upset the victim was using the 'wrong' bathroom.
The victim was left with a broken eye socket bone, cuts and bruises.
