A 24-year-old man is in custody following a nearly five-hour standoff with police.
Officers responded to a disturbance between the male suspect and his girlfriend at an apartment complex in the 300 block of Naymut Street around 11:30 p.m. Friday.
When officers arrived to talk with the woman, the man came out of the building holding a handgun.
After police asked the man multiple times to put down the gun, the suspect went back into the apartment and a standoff ensued.
Officers made several attempts to make contact with the suspect but were unsuccessful.
At that time, the Appleton Police Department's robot was deployed into residence and successfully made contact with the suspect.
The man was taken into custody shortly after without incident.
Witnesses say the man was drinking excessively during the hours prior to the incident.
The suspect is facing multiple charges including possessing a firearm in violation of a domestic abuse injunction and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
