GREEN BAY - Green Bay police have plans to announce new details in a cold case, bringing up the possibility of a break in a few well-known disappearances.
Police have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning. Until then, the department refuses to release details about the announcement.
So what are the possibilities? There have been several disappearances, and police are investigating at least one case as a homicide.
It's been more than 26 years since 22-year-old Lisa Holstead's body was found in a Green Bay marsh. Police say someone strangled Holstead in August 1986, leaving her body near an industrial park. No one was ever arrested.
A year earlier, 38-year-old Candace Jay Beckman-Wright disappeared. She was last seen on December 29, 1985.
Amber Wilde was 19 years old and 4 1/2 months pregnant when she was last seen in September of 1998. Her car was found unlocked with the keys in the ignition in a parking lot near Lambeau Field. In 2007, investigators searched a field along Highway 29 in Shawano County for any sign of Wilde. Eventually, the search was called off.
On August 21, 2000, 41-year-old Dawn Mohn disappeared after leaving a corn roast at Lenny's Tap on North Broadway in Green Bay. Her wallet was found near the bar the next day. No one has been arrested in the case.
Nearly nine years ago, 47-year-old Beulah Ann Ware was last seen. Police have yet to determine Ware's whereabouts since late March 2004 near the 1400 block of Harvey Street in Green Bay.
Jay Breyer, with Mission Home, is an advocate for the missing. He said Friday's announcement by police, shows law enforcement's diligence in working on cold cases.
"Hopefully that's going to bring some closure to a family that needs answers," Breyer said.
However, Breyer added most families never get full closure in a missing persons case. Learning new information can sometimes open up more questions.
"You could be looking at a confession, you could be looking at evidence find, you could be looking at a long term investigation bringing charges. You know, if there's charges brought, there's a lot more questions, so this cold case effort is just another step in the continuation," said Breyer.
Green Bay police are holding the news conference at 10 a.m. Friday. We plan to stream it live on fox11online.com, and have a full report on FOX 11 News at Five.
