HOWARD - Friday morning storms led to an especially rude awakening for a family in Howard.
Lightning struck the back of their home on Keystone Ct. One woman and four children were inside at the time, but no one was hurt. The lightning struck with such force that officials say one child was knocked out of bed.
The strike also sparked a fire.
"When we arrived there was smoke and flames visible near the rear of the home - obviously a lightning strike," Howard firefighter Don Phillips said.
Fire officials say there was significant damage to the roof of the home. They estimate the damage to be around $25,000.
