ASHWAUBENON - Some students who walk to school in Ashwaubenon now have a new option.
A ribbon cutting was held Monday for the Safe Route to School Path.
It was put in near Valley View Elementary School.
District leaders say that was the school that needed the most change.
The school district applied for a Safe Route to School federal grant back in 2010.
Organizers say the path is to ensure safety and even encourage a little exercise through biking or walking to and from school.
"There's actually two paths, two segments one starts at Orrie Lane and goes up to True along Marvelle which is the one we are on currently, and then there was an existing path from Orrie to the back of Valley View School and that path was ripped up and refurbished made wider and better," said Brad Taylor, Ashwaubenon School District.
The grant was given out by the state DOT.
A survey of local businesses looked at employee numbers and overall outlook for the coming year.
