GREEN BAY - At the urging of numerous Green Bay Packers fans, Mayor JimSchmitt renamed Green Bay's Minnesota Avenue, a short road on theeast side between the Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary and the Bay ofGreen Bay. The Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings at LambeauField this Sunday in a highly anticipated rematch.
The street is now Aaron Rodgers Drive.
Schmitt said he went to Rodgers' home Wednesday night to get hisnumber 12 jersey signed, and brought the sign with him to show tothe Packers quarterback.
"I went in the house, and I said 'hey look, this is what we'redoing tomorrow,' and he goes 'oh man, that's awesome,' and he turnsup the lights and he's taking pictures. So he's very excited aboutthis, and well deserving of changing Minnesota Avenue to AaronRodgers Drive for the weekend," said Schmitt.
Schmitt invited Rodgers to attend the street renaming, butRodgers had practice Thursday.
The city's Department of Public Works made the sign. Schmitt didnot know how much it cost.
The temporary designation will continue up until Monday. Afterit's taken down, Rodgers has said he will autograph the sign anddonate it to charity.
