PRICE COUNTY - A first-time bear hunter could make state history. He bagged amore than 700-pound prize in the town of Spirit in southeasternPrice County -- and he's waiting for confirmation from the D-N-Rthat his bear set a state record.
"That's my first black bear I ever shot."
Mark Listle has been deer hunting since he was 12 years old. Buton Friday night after a tip from a friend, he made a discovery of alife time on a farm in the town of Spirit in southeastern PriceCounty.
"I was pretty excited cause I knew from the pictures how big itwas and it person to see it, it was awesome when you see a 727pound live weight bear that's big," said Listle.
The bear 's live weight was certified at a weighing station inPrentice. After that he brought it to The Safari Room in Medford tohave it mounted. Brenda DuVall, a wild life artist there, says thebear's hide measured 80 inches in length from the tip of his noseto the base of his tail.
"This bear was so big it had to be brought in with a bobcat,literally a forklift and it was covering the 4 by 8 sheet ofplywood," said DuVall.
Listle says he wants everyone to see his prize and hopefully itwill generate more interest in the sport.
"After it's mounted it will be on display at my convience storein Tripoli for everyone to see."
