EAU CLAIRE (AP) - Three Eau Claire residents are accused of stealing a $10,000 lottery ticket from a 65-year-old man and cashing it.
A WEAU-TV report says two men and one woman are charged with felony theft. They could face more than nine years in prison if convicted.
Prosecutors say the legitimate winner recently took his ticket to a convenience store to cash it. An employee told investigators she helped the man mail the ticket but later noticed it hadn't been sent. She says she took it home to her boyfriend, who suggested they cash it.
The boyfriend allegedly offered his brother $500 to claim the ticket.
The 65-year-old man says he still hasn't received his winnings, and he's not sure if he ever will. He says the lesson is, "Don't trust nobody."
