MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Milwaukee Police Department has arrested a member of its force for sexual assault and stalking.
The Police Department disclosed the arrest on Thursday. The department says Sgt. Alex Lopez was arrested on Wednesday and is now being held in the Waukesha County Jail while the Milwaukee County District Attorney's office reviews the case.
The department says the 16-year member of the force was investigated by its Internal Affairs Division after a complaint from a woman with whom Lopez had a past relationship.
A supervisor at the Waukesha Jail says it does not allow inmates to take phone calls. It was not immediately clear if Lopez has obtained legal representation.
The department says Lopez has been suspended while the investigation proceeds.
