If you are trying to get to I-43 from Hwy. 41, or vice versa, you can use Hwy. 172. This is the DOT's recommended route, and signs will direct drivers to use this traffic pattern.
For local traffic, the detour is as follows:
Going north, take I-43 to Webster Ave., south to University Ave., west to Monroe Ave., south to Main St., west to Broadway, north to Mather St., west to Velp Ave., west to Atkinson Dr. and north back to I-43. Reverse those directions if you are headed south.
Police say this alternate route for I-43 will be more heavily congested than what is normally seen. Due to this, local drivers are encouraged to use other routes, especially when they need to cross the river. The Mason St. bridge is designed to accommodate higher traffic volumes and would be the recommended route.
