MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Milwaukee Brewers are celebrating the Klement's Famous Racing Sausages debut 20 years ago.
The team is holding a pregame ceremony before their Thursday afternoon game against the Cubs. That day's race will feature the original three sausages: The Bratwurst, The Italian and The Polish. The Hot Dog and The Chorizo will hold the finish line.
The race began as a scoreboard animation in the early 1990s with just The Bratwurst, The Polish and The Italian running toward Milwaukee County Stadium against a backdrop of the city of Milwaukee. In June 1993, they introduced the costumes and made the race live action at Milwaukee County Stadium.
Later in the 1990s The Hot Dog joined the race. The Chorizo was added in 2007.
