GREEN BAY - Cole Stefan is the fifth player to leave the UW-Green Bay men's basketball program in the last three-plus months.
The university confirmed to FOX 11 Thursday afternoon that Stefan was leaving.
"We wish Cole all the best in his future and thank him for his contributions to our program," said men's basketball coach Brian Wardle in the statement. "Certainly, we will do everything we can to help him moving forward in his recruiting process."
Stefan (sophomore; Minnetonka, MN) transferred to Green Bay in January of 2012. He played his freshman year at La Salle in 2010-11 and did not play the 2011-12 season.
Four other players have left the Phoenix men's basketball team in the last few months. Guard Sultan Muhammad left after saying he would like to play closer to home due to a family issue. Nick Arenz transferred and will play at Winona State in Minnesota next season.
Ryan Bross, whose mother sent a letter to the university alleging Wardle had verbally and emotionally abused her son, transferred to Concordia University. An independent investigation into the allegations by the Bross family and also the family of senior forward Brennan Cougill resulted in discipline from the university, but Wardle was allowed to remain the coach at Green Bay.
Kam Cerroni left the program in the middle of the 2012-13 season, citing differences with Wardle. He will play next season at St. Norbert College in De Pere.
