OSHKOSH - Tom Lechnir is out as the UW-Oshkosh baseball coach after 25 seasons. UW-Oshkosh Director of Athletics Darryl Sims confirmed the move to FOX 11 on Saturday.
Sims said that Lechnir was informed at a meeting on Friday that his contract would not be extended beyond this season. Sims would not elaborate on the reason for not renewing Lechnir's contract, citing a desire to not comment on personnel decisions.
Sims also said that a national search for Lechnir's replacement will begin later this month.
The Titans 2013 baseball season ended May 11th with a 17-9 loss to UW-Whitewater in the WIAC tournament.
UW-Oshkosh finished 12-10 in WIAC play and 23-14 overall. They failed to reach the NCAA Division III playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.
Lechnir guided the Titans to the NCAA Division III national championship in 1994 and made nine college World Series appearances. The Titans also captured 12 WIAC titles under Lechnir, the last of which came in 2009.
Lechnir has a career record of 728-292-1.
