ASHWAUBENON - Ferris State and Cornell won NCAA hockey Midwest Regional semifinal games Friday at the Resch Center, putting them one game away from the Frozen Four.
In the first game, #2-seeded Ferris St. scored the game's first two goals and held on to defeat #3-seeded Denver 2-1.
In the second game, #1-seeded Michigan appeared to score two goals in the game's first 90 seconds, but the second goal was disallowed for goalie interference. #4-seeded Cornell would tie the game at 1-1, and later take a 2-1 lead. A Wolverine goal with 4:01 remaining tied the game at 2-2. The Big Red's Rodger Craig scored 3:35 into overtime for the win.
Cornell and Ferris State play at 8pm Saturday. The winner advances to the Frozen Four in Tampa, Florida.
In the East Regional, UMass-Lowell defeated Miami (OH) 4-3 in overtime, and Union defeated Michigan State 3-1.
Saturday, play starts in two other regionals. Minnesota plays Boston University, while North Dakota faces Western Michigan in the West Regional. Air Force plays Boston College, and Maine plays Minnesota-Duluth in the Northeast regional.
