SHAWANO - Cool weather on Thursday and Friday has put a damper on sturgeon spawning action in Shawano.
Department of Natural Resources biologists say they expected the fish to actively spawn on Thursday and Friday, but as of Friday morning, there were no fish visible at the Shawano Dam.
Biologists think the early spawning fish finished before the cold weather moved in and cooled the water, and the later spawning sturgeon had not begun. They think when the water warms up with forecast warmer weather in the coming days, the sturgeon will become active again at the Shawano Dam.
