GREEN BAY - Aaron Rodgers woke up Sunday mornings with what he described as a stiff neck. It was bad enough he even got treatment for it before the game. Apparently whatever the Packers trainers did worked. Rodgers left Lambeau with not only a career high but tied the franchise mark for passing yards in a game with 480.and 4 touchdowns.
Rodgers explained how that kind of game happens. “That's what happens sometimes when you're in a good rhythm. You know unless you see it up on the scoreboard the stats and the yards it just comes from doing your responsibility and throwing the ball accurately,” Rodgers said.
Mike McCarthy heaped the praise on his quarterback. “Aaron's a special football player. The quarterback position gives you the opportunity to lift everybody up and he definitely did that today,” McCarthy said.
Rodgers 480 yards was divided among 6 receivers with both James Jones and Randall Cobb eclipsing 125 yards receiving. Rodgers was just as adept at distributing praise after the game.
“We had a lot of yards after the catch today. We had 480 yards but how much of that is YAC. So everybody got involved everybody contributed,” Rodgers said.
Jordy Nelson, caught 3passes for 66 yards and 2 touchdowns. He’s seen Rodgers have a lot of great games and this one ranks amongst the best. “Call it being zoned in or whatever but he's just out there making plays. Hopefully we were making it as easy as possible for him by getting separation and getting open for him,” Nelson said.
A week after being held without a catch, James Jones caught 11 passes for 178. Although Jones was disappointed to not catch a touchdown pass, he was happy to talk about what his position group accomplished.
“The sky is the limit especially in the receiver room. We pride ourselves on making every play and we've got a bunch of guys that can make plays,” Jones said.
TJ Lang didn’t catch any passes, offensive linemen rarely do but he could describe how Rodgers managed the offense as a whole. “Aaron's always got the same mindset. He's very consistent guy. He's going to take what the defense gives us and take advantage of the opportunities and when it's time to make a big play,” Lang said.
If there was any downside to Rodgers day it’s that he still only shares the Packers single game yardage mark with his former understudy Matt Flynn. Rodgers said he was happy to share the record with Flynn but did expect a text at some point giving him a hard time for not besting Flynn’s mark.
