GREEN BAY - Bucky Badger hasn't been at Lambeau Field in quite some time.
It's been seven years since UW-Madison played a hockey game there.
Now, there's talk about bringing Bucky back.
The match-up being discussed would pit the Wisconsin Badgers against the Louisiana State Tigers.
The talks are only in the beginning stages, but it could be the first time in more than thirty years a team other than the Packers would call Lambeau Field home.
It was 1983 during the second Lombardi Memorial Classic Football Game. St. Norbert College beat Coach Vince Lombardi's alma mater, Fordham 18-9.
That was the last college game played at Lambeau Field.
Three decades later, there is talk of another college game. This time between Wisconsin and LSU.
"At this point, there is nothing on the books or anything of that sort. It's all it is right now, just something that there would be interest in, and would be pursued if the opportunity were there," said Aaron Popkey, Packers spokesperson.
FOX 11 reached out to Wisconsin's Athletic Department. We have yet to get a response about the idea.
LSU's Athletic Director Joe Avella would only release a statement. In it, Avella said: "It's too early. There's too many things to consider. The biggest thing to consider is the value of playing a game that far away versus the value of playing a game in Tiger Stadium. That's what it comes down to."
Is Lambeau Field too far for LSU to travel? We looked at the team's upcoming 12-game schedule. The two longest road trips are to stadiums in Texas, and Georgia.
Avella's statement goes on to say: "From a recruiting standpoint it's a great game to tell kids you are going to go play in Lambeau Field. But Wisconsin is a long way away."
Fans we talked to say the match up would be huge.
"I'd love to see it happen. I'm really enthused about the new Badgers coach. It will be interesting," said Judeann Maslinski, Ashwaubenon.
"That's not just putting a statement for the Big 10, that's putting a statement out there for everything, You are looking for a NCAA National Championship, that's something we got to do," said Chad Kakes, Two Rivers.
It is important to stress again these are just talks. Nothing has been finalized.
