MADISON, Wis. (AP) - No. 23 Wisconsin is off to a running start in Gary Andersen's tenure as head coach.
Three Badgers ran for more than 100 yards in Saturday's 45-0 rout of Massachusetts in the season opener. Melvin Gordon led the way with 144 yards and a 70-yard touchdown run.
The Minutemen weren't considered a good defensive team to begin with, but the game at least gave the Badgers a chance to find their rhythm under Andersen's watch. There's also a new offensive coordinator in Andy Ludwig, while Joel Stave has reclaimed the starting quarterback job.
Stave struggled early, but then found success after Wisconsin went play action on two long passes for touchdowns to receiver Jared Abbrederis. It was set up by another set up by the Badgers' formidable running game.
