GREEN BAY - The Green Bay Gamblers turn over their roster almost every year thanks to the developmental nature of the league.
On Monday, the team began building for the 2013-14 season.
The Gamblers picked defenseman, and Wausau native, Adam Parcells with its first pick in the futures draft. Many 16-year-old players who aren't ready for action in the United States Hockey League are picked in the first part of the draft, with the general draft taking place separately. This years general draft will take place on Tuesday.
"You lose so many kids on to college or the professional ranks, we have to build every year, it's not a professional sport where players go five, six, 10 years under contract," said Gamblers head coach Derek Lalonde. "you get a lot of one year kids, so it truly is lifelong and we put everything into it."
The Gamblers lost in the first round of the USHL playoffs this past season. Coach Lalonde and the team are hoping to put together another playoff run in 2013-14.
