GREEN BAY - Fueling the fire in a crosstown football rivalry in Green Bay.
For 108 years, West and East high schools have been rivals. Now, taking it down a few grades, Franklin and Washington now have the chance.
They're playing Tuesday because of a new middle school football program.
"We're stressing fundamentals, we're stressing safety, we're stressing accountability, teamwork,” said Darrin Kehoe, Franklin football coach. “This is the culmination of a lot of hard work this season, but really, this started 108 years ago when Green Bay West and Green Bay East got together and this is just building on that."
Putting differences aside for a little bit Tuesday, both teams and coaches took a combined team photo.
In all, about 80 players participate in the middle school football program.
